Tips and shortcuts

A few tips for making fast wireframing even faster:
  • Snap to grid is useful, but sometimes you want to ignore it.  Just hold down shift while you’re dragging.
  • To fine-tune the placement of widgets, select a widget and use the arrow keys to move the widget one pixel at a time.
  • To add widgets more quickly or to add multiple widgets in a row, use your keyboard.  Start typing at any time to start searching for a widget, then use the arrow keys and press enter to quickadd the one you want.
  • All the usual shortcuts you're used to from desktop apps work in Mockingbird:
    • Copy: Command/Ctrl-C
    • Paste: Command/Ctrl-V
    • Undo: Command/Ctrl-Z
    • Redo: Command-Shift-Z (Mac) / Ctrl-Y (Windows)

Just stumbled across this by way of wireframes.linowski.ca, and have to say I'm really impressed; it looks good, feels right, and provides easy page-to-page linking and project sharing.

What it doesn't have (or at least I haven't found) is a way to define masters: pages that other pages are built on, so that a change to an app-wide navigation toolbar is immediately reflected in all "child" pages.

If you're not already planning to add masters, you should probably consider them. But overall, this looks great; congratulations.

Michael, masters/templates are in our plans for sure -- just thinking about how best to implement them.

looks like a great way to do quick UI sketches. no way to delete widgets though?

shreddd: You should be able to delete widgets be selecting the widget (or widgets) and hitting backspace or delete. Let me know if that doesn't work.
